PIERRE, SD – Missouri River residents who have flood insurance now have an extra 30 days to file their claim and statement of loss for 2011 flooding, officials with the National Flood Insurance Program have announced.

Owners whose buildings or property were initially damaged by Missouri River flooding on June 1 now have until October 29 to file their claims and their “proof of loss” (a statement of what was damaged by the flood). Those who first had damage on June 2 now have until October 30, and so forth.

Flood insurance claims and proofs of loss usually must be filed with insurance agents within 60 days of the damage. That deadline has now been extended twice for the 2011 Missouri River flooding, to a total of 150 days.
